The hypercoagulation panel consists of Protein C activity (if low protein C antigen and factor VII), Protein S activity (if low, protein S free antigen, factor VIII and fibrinogen), antithrombin III, activated protein C resistance (if abnormal, specific factor V Leiden DNA test), lupus anticoagulant, anticardiolipin ab IgG IgM, anti-B2 glycoprotein ab IgG IgM, Prothrombin 20210 gene mutation, dilute Russell viper venom screen, PT, PTT. Protein C and protein S cannot be performed if the patient is on coumadin, because their levels will be decreased. Antithrombin, APCR, protein S, lupus anticoagulant testing cannot be performed if the patient is on Argatroban, dabigatran, bivalirudin as these can cause erroneous results. Rivaroxaban, apixaban, edoxaban may give erroneous results with the APCR, proten S and lupus anticoagulant testing. Please call the laboratory to discuss options if the patient is on these anticoagulants or if there is a special situation. Please indicate in the order comment if the patient is currently on anticoagulants and list anticoagulant(s). Please also indicate in the order comment if the patient has experienced recent/current thrombosis or bleeding. Please note: as of 4/1/25, the tube type for Anticardiolipin Antibodies and Beta-2 Glycoprotein, which are part of this panel, has been updated to GOLD. |
