    Test Usage
 
The CSF IgG index may be useful in diagnosing multiple sclerosis (MS) and represents the ratio of CSF IgG to CSF albumin normalized to the ratio of serum IgG to serumn albumin.  Elevations in this index suggest IgG synthesis within the CSF.  The CSF IgG index can be mathematically converted into an estimated CSF IgG synthesis rate.   This test is elevated in approximately 80% of MS patients, but can also be abnormal in the setting of other inflammatory demylinating diseases.
