For determination of the tissue origin of an elevated total alkaline phosphatase, the measurement of GGT (available same day, in house) is suggested as an alternative to measurement of fractionated alkaline phosphatase.  A normal GGT level is suggestive of a non-hepatic origin of the alkaline phosphatase.
